Jun. 7th, 2020 01:40 amSo a conversation from photo class spilled over into email, and I realized it would be potentially relevant to find that picture of Rey with all the bananas (which is one of my favourite pictures I've ever taken).
The yak shaving went as thus:
Find photo on hard drive - wait hard drive doesn't play nice with Melody, borrow Ezri's computer - damnit, I want to be able to look at photos on my computer proper time for googling - download a software - ah yes, this is a good software it is loading all the image files off my external - ...this is a lot of loading - I have made a grave mistake in saying "all" the image files, haven't I? - what do you mean 240,000 - okay but like the photo's gotta be in here somewhere, right? - I did want all the photos - but not the duplicates - christ there's a lot of duplicates - fucking 75% of all this is duplicates! - Okay this is gonna suck to go through by hand but let's just do it.
And so I have gone through about 22,000 images so far, and actually elected to port 6,000 of them over to Melody. The actual goal here is to get all the images into one library, and then I can re back them up to the external in a nice clean archive, instead of a chaotic heap of files (the last time I did photo backup properly instead of hastily was apparently 2013) and start looking through them and stuff.
I figure if I can get through 10k images a day --and that's not too bad for hyperfocus brain and maybe some television in the background-- I'll be done in less than a month, and this is a project I've been meaning to get to for _forever_ so it's good to do it now.
Also man, I'm not even proper looking through the files, just skimming off the duplicates, and wow there's a lot in here. The majority of the batch I did today was all off the freshman/sophomore year of college camera, and like...college, man. Rocky Horror, thrift store horrors, lots of photos of the Lesleyans, Honkfest, concerts...it's pretty keen, except for when I stumble across photos of my rapist ex, hope *that* doesn't happen too often!
(A quick skim of "sort by date" instead of filename implies that there's maybe another dozen that I haven't hit yet. It sucks and I hate it and once I reach phase two of the project --actually go through the photos properly and upload a bunch of good ones somewhere and do tagging and shit-- I can dump them into a burn-after-reading folder and get them the fuck out of the way and never think about them again. But I'm okay, and I'll be okay --I know that this sort of project features exactly this sort of pitfall.)
Also I did find the picture I was looking for, but while I was shaving yaks, the conversation made it irrelevant. Oh well. ( It's a good photo anyways )
