Catching Up
Dec. 17th, 2012 05:51 pmSo this is a catchup post, to do catchupy things. Because there's been a fair number of things that have happened in my life in the last n months that deserve more talking about.
There was something about being hit by a car?
Yeah, three weeks ago. I missed two weeks of Scottish and most of a night of Squares, plus I had to seriously slow down for the Tech Squares Challenge Weekend --instead of dancing 2/3rds of the dances (or more) I was dancing a quarter or less. There are effects that don't have to do with dancing, but believe me, this is by far the scariest part.
I had really impressive bruising --pictures are on Flickr-- and was limping Most Impressively for about ten days after, but I seem to be at ninety percent or better now. Most crucially, I _can_ dance again.
I still have not formally been to a doctor, but will attempt to do that sometime in January or February, in the context of a general exam. I have not had a general exam since I had a pediatrician, so this is, you know. A good excuse to deal with All That.
Well that's good. And just before that, you were talking about being some kind of professional teacher?
Ayep. I'm a substitute, I've been hired literally every day school has been open since I started, and I have a month-long gig in January. I assume that all of this is some sort of good.
Highlights include the student who asked if I was fifteen, the students astounded that I knew what Flip-O-Rama was (boy, I was reading Captain Underpants before you were born!), the student who begged me for extra homework and then turned it in a month later when I saw her class again (favourite. student.), the class obsessed with ghosts and ghost stories I had for two days near Halloween, and at least one story that I'm not willing to have a paper trail for.
I looooooooovvvvvveeeeeeee it. Even more since they've started paying me properly (OH THE DRAMA THAT WAS JEEZE)
Also, today I got to dance around the room with students and make them listen to Homestuck music. Y'all know that the whole reason I'm doing this is to warp young minds, right? Mission. Accomplished.
Cool! Glad that's going great. Hey, speaking of things going great, how's Yuletide?
You can shut your mouth right damn now, thanks.
But...
Nope.
Oh...kay...Um...any other creative projects going on?
Yeah, the webcomic Leftover Soup is running a contest and I'm pretty much obligated to enter or else I lose some major "Number One Fan" points with regards to Tailsteak, and those are way too awesome to let slip through my fingers. So I'm sorta writing fanfic that is not for my Yulegoat (oops) and trying to draw fanart and maybe cosplay? Yep.
Hangon, you're squeeing about that comic, but what about Homestuck? You still into that?
Yeah, I'm just like...months behind on actually reading the comic. Don't worry, I'm given to understand that this is completely normal, and in fact, seems to be the case for many of my fellow fans.
Oh, well then. Let's see, you have a bike, right? Ever get a seat for that after it was stolen?
Ugh, yessss. Currently Dr. Draper is out of commission for a flat tire, but she does have a seat. I've been using Gary, who is my beater-bike for emergencies and stuff.
SPEAKING OF BIKES...Katstarter? Weren't there like...pictures involved?
OKAY SO! There were indeed Katstarter Pictures, and I have a short list of people to draw them for and a long list of people I still need to send thank yous to (everyone). So unless you are Har, Whymydiddle, Keshwyn, Tacnukesoul, jere7my, BDan, Sparr, or Merav, you need to tell me if you want me to draw you something.
I am totally drawing things right nowish though, and will hopefully be frantically drawing things more soon. I can't swear that all the pictures will be _sent_ by the 21st, but I'm pretty sure, given the current backlog, they will all be _made_.
Geeze, what is this, like five months worth of stuff?
Yeah, but it's only 40 entries of livejournal. That's DEPRESSING. Blimey. Must do something about that.
Hm, will keep going though. OKCupid account using your pictures?
Deleted, no one else has mentioned finding another one yet.
Jobhunt madness?
Nnnnnsubstituting does not pay well enough to be considered a full-time job, but it pays well enough to make rent (I think? We'll see. The month I am getting February paychecks will be very hard.) I still want odd jobs, but it's a lot harder to find the time to slot them in, especially since subbing is more than 35 hours a week, and I am so not excited to bike thirty minutes to go work five hours on a day when I already woke up at six thirty and dealt with kids all day. It's sortof a mess. I'm working on it, we'll see what happens. In general, babysitting will get through, jobs very close to home will get through, jobs I can do at home will get through.
Your new phone?
I have had Nyota for just shy of six months and she is The Best. I still need a proper keyoard so that I can use her as a typing/word processing machine, but hot damn, it's been a long time since I had a new computer, and I needed one.
Maps suck eight hundred kinds of ass, though. No bikes, no public transit, basically a hot pile of "why do I even have you on here?".
Birthday party?
I did not have a birthday party. This is very sad. Maybe at my Middleman party (in February? March?) I will have cake to make up for it.
That's a lot of stuff!
Yes, it is.
You should go dance!
Yes, I should.
Ta!
