Pre-Thanksgiving
Nov. 27th, 2024 11:08 pmAnyways, I am in Vermont! Huzzah!
Last day of SamSam visiting --it's really delightful that they were able to visit for so long! But today they went off on the red line to meet up with their older brother and drive off to Northampton for their Thanksgiving celebrations. I'm very pleased they didn't have to leave until after I got home from school, which means we got in a last half hour or so of snuggling after lunch.
I dropped them off in Davis Square and sauntered to the passport office to deliver some paperwork, frantically filled out at a fairly last moment with at least one text to mom being all "uhhhh you were born in [city] right?". The woman at the post office said everything seemed to look good, so now it's out of my hands and I can be stressed about all the parts I can't control, which I actually tend to handle much better.
(I suspect that this is in part because there is so much in my life that I could theoretically control but don't, so I don't have time to also be stressed about the things I can't even affect in the first place!)
Anyways, eight billion thanks to Lauradi for actually believing me when I say "nagging me is good actually" and being willing to do so and endure my being grumpy and complicated and now I will have a passport someday, unless something I can't control goes wrong, at which point fuck it, who knows, but I won't actually be any worse than I am right now.
Then back home to finish my last bits of packing, headbomps and hugs for my roommates, and off to the red line. Which was pretty efficient and had a friend-Kemma on it, and we got a bit of pleasant smalltalk about our separate Thanksgiving destinations. To South Station, grab some pretzel-bits as bus food, off to the bus terminal, and literally less than a minute before they opened the door to start boarding, Tuesday sauntered up to join me. Which is good because she had the tickets.
The bus was somehow even early on arrival??? Honestly, I hope I didn't use up all my travel karma on the way up here, because it was very nice traveling. Tuesday and I watched an episode of Make Some Noise she had downloaded, and then I played some Balatro as she watched some Good Place and both of us cuddled close to each other and enjoyed a fairly empty and reasonably comfortable bus ride.
We got dropped off in New Hampshire, quite close to the VT border, and Karen (Tuesday's mom) came by to pick us up, not too far out of the way of her other errands. I got to do the highway driving shift as far as the grocery store, and then Tuesday took over for the local drive the rest of the way to home. And here I am in upstate Vermont for a few days! We are expecting an inch or two of snow tomorrow and a nice dinner together just the four of us (me, Tues, two parents) and several days of us children doing useful chores and reading books. I'm quite excited actually, I like Tuesday's parents quite a bit and they both feel very familiar to me in the right kind of family ways.
I hope whatever you are doing in the next few days is nice for you.
