So yeah. Dancing: good. Being able to sleep in: good. Remembering to take my meds like a good girl: good. Getting enough to eat last night, honesty, kitties: good, good, good.

Sorcy feeling less emo? Fan*tas*tic. [/Ecclston1!Who]

Dance! Dance was last night, and holy shit, I know how to waltz2. I mean, I came to Boston with a vague idea of how to do a proper turning waltz, thanks to doing it a couple times with Larry (Though he's good enough a lead that you can have three left feet and he'll still make you somehow be a graceful dancer) and whatnot. But doing it every week at SCD, plus randomly occasionally forcing other people to learn how (yay for practising as a lead, too!) means that I can actually do it reasonably well or something and YAY!!

...Learned the name of a step I knew last night, but it's completely left my mind by now. Rondel? *googles* Yes! Dude, I'm cool sometimes. But yeah, I think that puts the number of formations that I actually know how to do up to a dozen or so.

Ben, who started at SCD a couple months before I did, was remarking to me the other day that the real trick to becoming good at the dancing was learning the names of the formations and what the were. It's a *lot* easier to remember

"rights and lefts, two couple allemande, four hands round and back"

than it is to remember

"turn your partner halfway by the right hand, turn your fellow lady/man halfway by the left hand, turn their partner halfway by the right hand, turn your fellow halfway by the left hand; meet your partner, get into allemande hold while stepping out to the right, swing around and dance up the mens side of the dance, turn the lady round so partners are facing each other, dance back to your side, first couple having progressed; grab the hands of your fellow and your partner and slipstep to the left for four measures and back to the right for four measures."

Like, *a lot* easier. And that way, you can actually learn the dances without necessarily having to walk through them multiple times, which is groovy.

(Also, I don't believe that that's anything even resembling a real dance, especially since it's only 24 bars long. Eh, I suppose it could be a short dance. At any rate, it does have an allemande in it, which is by far my favourite SCD formation. Soyeah.)

AT ANY RATE! SCD is totally awesome, and I am thinking about swapping my mission 101 goal that's all "learn, memorize, be good at ten swing moves" to being just "learn, memorize, be good at ten SCD moves". And then I would have another goal ticked off, which would be exciting.

Soyeah. Dancing in general is love, and Scottish Country moreso.

Hey, wanna know what's decidedly uncool? Rehersal nights are Mondays (SCD), Wednesdays (Meaning I'm in class from one until five fifteen, and then in rehersal from six until ten, hatehate), and Thursdays (Game night at Dan4th's.)

Also, Sunday mornings (meaning I can't stay over at anyones house on Saturday nights) and tech on Saturday mornings (meaning I can't stay over at anyones house on Friday nights.) Mantra to be repeated until the thirteenth of April: I really do love the theatre. I really do love the theatre. I really do love the theatre.

Unrelatedly, NTS, I need to look up when/where/how much NEFFA is. Oh, hot damn, they have the whole "volunteer and get in free" thing going. Sorcy likes, yep.

Right! I'm going to...uhm...accomplish things? Like what, there's nothing *to* accomplish today. Well, I could go clean my room. Eh, maybe. AT ANY RATE!

1: Have I mentioned yet that it took me until I actually *listened* to the lyrics of Science Fiction / Double Feature again to get Claude (from Heroes)'s name? Yeah, I am just that ditzy.

2: Turning waltz --Viennese style, I think?

rehearsals until the 13th? that's just around the corner! two weeks. that's nothing.

this from the woman who will eventually take a 12-week paralegal course, and i use the idea of 'it's just 12 weeks, that's nothing' to keep me sane about it, 'cause it's intensive and scary.

instead, i just signed up for Construction Project Mgt I, go me!

NEFFA, yes, it's addicting... I don't suppose you'd want to come volunteer for me as a media wrangler? Saturday...

Well, your example dance does progress, and there's music that repeats in 24b, so it is a two couple dance. And it's not boring for the non-lead couple, which is a plus.

"2: Turning waltz --Viennese style, I think?"

Mid-nineteenth century glide-waltz is what I've been doing with you. Modern Viennese is, IIRC, more similar to the late-nineteenth centry "new" waltz.

"...formation..."

figure is the more common term in my experience.

. o O (ohgreat, now i have it stuck in me 'ead again... and worse, i mix up the lyrics so it'll have bits like "Michael Rennie was there when the earth stood still, Claude Rains was the invisible man.. and Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear, Claude RainHOSHITEdammit..." over & over again... i'll have to listen to the CD that W made that has a combination of the movie, the british, and the roxy versions aaagaaaaaain)(i tell W & he says, "oh, so then you'd say, 'So something went wrong with Harena'sHeadSong, it got caught in a Ferretital Jaaaaam'?" and i fell over into a heap of ferret giggling)
