I spent the weekend in New York City with [livejournal.com profile] thorog and his girl, Rose. Insert appropriate They Might Be Giants song here.

We...basically had a sinfully good time of things. Saturday, we arrived and went to Surreal Estate, which is the house/commune [livejournal.com profile] muzikmaker21 and roughly fifty other hippies live in. We got the grand tour, and learned far too many names --I think I picked up that prettyboy is Quin(t?), and I met an adorably charming girl called Meg, an aussie named Hannah, and a different adorably charming girl called Emma, who was totally flattered when I accidentally called her Meg. We also went and got really good pizza from the sustainable pizza place across the street from Surreal Estate, where Nathen works.

Eventually, we wandered off to Times Square, where we stood in an abysmally long TKTS line1 and spent much time debating what show to try and see2. We were this close to going and seeing ROCK OF AGES3, but there was not seats together, so we decided we'd rather sit in the same place, and see Avenue Q.

After TKTS, we hit up Toys R Us, where we acquired a Brenton/[livejournal.com profile] gyrik_224, and bunches of candy. We did not acquire a dinosaur, because it wouldn't fit in my purse, or a stick pony, even though I was tempted. Also, LEGO PIRATES ARE HAPPENING AGAIN! Just so you all know.

Dinner wound up being at a bar a couple blocks up from Times Square (Daltons? I think Daltons) which was good food, very nice to Rose and her pepper-allergy, and did not try to card us when we walked in, which would've resulted in me being kicked out5. So they get points! From there to AveQ, which was fairly enjoyable, and pretty much targeted exactly at the four of us --the girl halfway through her undergrad, the girl in the middle of her graduate degree, the boy just out of college and trying to make a living in the big city, and the boy trying to get a doctorate. Musicals written for twenty-somethings are fun!

Wandered for a while in search of ice cream, settled for Jamba Juice at the Port Authority, at least in part because they had bathrooms. Headed back to Surreal Estate, where we learned that drunk hippies really really like delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies6. Tho and Rose did their own thing for a bit, and I went out on one of the roofs with Nathen and Meg to chill. Oh, and in case I haven't made it clear enough yet, Surreal Estate is very *very* awesome. I may go ahead and take my ten day trial period sometime, were I a New York kind of girl. ((They give you ten days before they figure you've moved in, and should therefore pay rent or teach dancing or give backrubs or something. They are a very chill commune.))

We slept. [I am debating this sentence, someone remind me to ask Tho if I can post it.] Sunday morning we woke up, got dressed, and danced salsa and swing in the common room. Eventually, we managed to wander out for bagels, which were delicious, and thrift storing, which was really quite fun --Nathen managed to find a tie that said "viagra" on it repeatedly, and I got a gorgeous summery dress --doubly good, since it was a billion degrees out, and I had previously been wearing black jeans.

We left Surreal Estate and headed to The Strand, where we again met up with Brenton. I'm not entirely sure what happened between 1:30 and 4, but I think it involved a lot of books, and possibly Forbidden Planet. From there, we walked many many blocks to a tiny little macaroon shop Tho had found out about using the power of the INTERNET! and then a pasta shop for dinner, and a quick look around Macys while waiting for the bus home.

Ended out the trip by sitting on the sidewalk in a light rain, chatting and snuggling. Long, overly hot, ride home with some absolutely smashing conversation, and then to bed, to bed.

...or in my case, to Vera, in order to chat with people and make sure none of you has exploded while I was gone.

And that was my weekend! Origins in three days! Aiee, I've got to pack >.<

1: Dear mom, you lied, it's not under the Marriot Marquee anymore. It is in fact, smack in the middle of Times Square
2: NTS: Write "Phantom of Chicago Q...OF AGES!"
3: \m/
4: Okay, yeah, there's a reason I couldn't remember your screenname, Dragon. It is a complicated name, that I'm not totally positive I can pronounce.
5: Not that we ordered any boozahol anyways. But they do sometimes card at the door, and being as I was the only under-21 in the group, it would've been annoying as all hell.
6: Brenton made 'em for us because he's a gentleman or somesuch. They were fekken' delicious, and did not last very long at all.

Before any actual posting gets done, here in the first line that people actually read, I just need to say that Skullx is SUPER AWESOME! for making me a new avatar, without even being asked. The extremely astute may note that it looks exactly like the other avatar he made me, only about four years older, in Boston, and with a duck. Oh, and wearing glasses, since apparently my original pirate skullx doesn't have glasses on it (Which I totally didn't realize until just now.)

So yeah. Skullx is incredibly awesome. *gives him cookies*

Onto other stuff.

Eventually I may get the "what I've been doing" post up, but in the meantime, this is just a bookpost, mostly to keep track for myself.

Yesterday I read:

The Pirates Mixed Up Voyage by Margaret Mahy (Who is apparently an EnZed native and I would TOTALLY GO STALK HER if I ever got out there.) I actually started this one a few days over, but I read most of it yesterday. It is, of course, my favourite childrens book ever, and my "Today has blown donkeys, I need a good book" book. This was the first time I'd read it in about five months due to assorted circumstances.

and

Rats Saw God by Rob Thomas. I've read this once before, and I enjoyed it just as much this time. Rats Saw God is a sort of counterculture coming of age story, with a narrator who is actually intelligent, and a lot of dadist art and culture floating around. It's a pretty good story, and what kick started my (albeit small) interest in dada.

More later. I actually hope to chronicle every book I read while up here. For now though, I need to do some homework.

I will say this about todays adventures: I walked over to the xkcd park, mostly to find out how long it would take (about half an hour if I go the Mass Av route --I'm sure there's a quicker way, it just requires more directions) and it is a Good Playground. The giant pyramidal thing in the satellite view on GoogleMaps? It's a giant thing to climb on, made entierly by rope fastened together in various shapes. It's beautiful.

September 23rd can't come soon enough!

Well, first off, you all have to look at my pretty pretty new toy. Unless you're disc_sophist. She's got one already. )

Besides that though, everyone* and their ex-boyfriend has been badgering me to get my dorm photos )

Next photo-post will involve birthday presents, and hopefully video of squirells playing fetch.

Soyeah.

It's the end of the first day of being at college.

Sofar, I have checked in, gotten my room, somewhat unpacked, met the roomie, eaten dinner, and started to make friends. Mostly, it's just kindergarden --everyone is really really nice, and trying to make friends.

So far, I've made friends with one girl who's a gamer and who positivly SQUEED when she learned that I was related to the guy who wrote Eberron. It was awesome. There's a Boston native called Evan who also games somewhat, and wants to start a gaming club of some sort. Also, there's a Californiagirl called Kaila who is quite awesome, and is in the same "Where is everything in Massachusettes?" boat as me.

After all the boring meetings and stuff, Evan, Kaila, about six others and I went out for a walk down to Davies square, with Evan playing tour guide. We found an awesome little cafe which sells vegan fuds, and it's right next to a used bookstore, so I clearly need to go back.

Soyeah. Life is good thus far. I miss you all and all that.

Hokay, so where did I leave off? The MS150? Yeah, I think so.

Anyways. I spent the weekend being a pirate and going "YARR!" a lot. Which was awesomely fun, though physically draining. Pretty much spent 15 solid hours in my bodice, which is...fun, but bad for me. I think I'm starting to outgrow it --I've been having more trouble with breathing and with wearing it for long periods of time, which sucks.

But yeah. The rest stop was way fun. All the bike riders absolutely loved us, and loved the various goodies we had out for them, especially the chocolate and sweadish fish. (MmmmmM!) And I will take just about any excuse to dress up like a pirate, especially if there're people to appreciate it around.

Sunday, I forwent the bodice and wore my t-shirt corset instead. Sometime soon, I will post pics, because that is an awesomely fun and easy craft.

After cheering on the people leaving for the Sunday riding, we hopped back into the car and drove all the way back from Salsbury (I slept most of the way) to home, to rush over to Illchester in order to get trained for day camp. I wound up spending copious amounts of time raking leaves and helping to better establish the archery section as awesome. PLUS, ohemgee, I'ma going to be working Archery with Blue! *squee!* I love that kid, she's really great.

(Don't be mentioning the fact that I dumped her. I can love people I break up with. :P)

AND, she gave me back my comics, so that was excellent.

Anywho, after setup and dinner and stuff, Wolf wound up getting a tricycle out of her truck that was built for a five year old or something. Of course, we all took turns riding it around the parking lots. Which ruled.

PLUS, Blue has a top hat! I just need to convince her to let me borrow it for a...project. *laughs evilly*

Annnnnnd yeah. That was the weekend. Ohyeah, and did I mention that I was the one who did the entire three hour drive to Salsbury? Yes, I do rule something fierce. We were caravaning with Jason and Korallean (sp?) and it was way fun, even if Galileo(Mum's van) isn't quite the dream to drive that Beast is.

Annnnnyways, that was this weekend. Today was the beginning of my Senior Week!

Now, normal people spend senior week getting drunk on the beach. Since me and Becky aren't especially into beaches full of drunk people, and have absolutely zero interest in getting drunk ourselves, we had to find other entertainment.

So we packed ourselves off to Washington DC to go visit museums (They're free!) and generally hang out. And it was AWESOME! Today we hit up the Air and Space Museum, the bits of the American History Museum that are in the Air and Space Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Which means that...

I GOT TO SEE KERMIT! *SQUEE!*

And dinosaur bones, and aeroplanes, and Appollo 11, and The Spirit of St. Louis, and loads of pretty shiny things, and a Stradivarius(sp?), and a scale model of the planets, and a giant red tomato-like spacecraft THING!

Soyeah. Smithsonian FTW. Pictures will get tossed up for everything, later. Just keep an eye on my flickr account, I suppose.

Annnnnnd I'm out. Tomorrow is a girl scout meeting, and then probably the Holocaust Museum. (Me and Becky are just a bucket of sunshine, aren't we?) Wednesday is hanging out at Becky's house and watching awesome movies (She has never seen Blues Brothers -for shame!) and then a job interview to see if I can become a TargetBitch. Thursday is more chillaxing with Becky and watching things.

And then I have a break, and will be able to relax and have time to myself.

*falls over laughing.* Yeah. Right.

Anyways, I ought to be cleaning my room, but I'm probably going to be hanging out here for a while instead. Take care of yourselves!

Spent the day at the farm, enjoying the fact that the camera I got for christmas has a whopping sixteen MB of space on its memory card.

Sixteen. Megs.

That translates to 44(ish) pictures at 1280 x 960 pixels each in standard quality, whatever that means. I could turn the size down to 600 by something pixels, but see, I don't want to.

I need a bigger memory card.

BUT AT ANY RATE!

I took this quite excellent picture of myself, wearing the totally sexy rainbow hat that Whymydiddle gave me for Holiday. THANK YOU!
